A PLACE CALLED HOME: THE GREAT MIGRATION OF THE 21ST CENTURY
THE FIRST FILM ABOUT THE SOUTH SINCE THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT
NAIMAH FULLER, CEO of Earthlightmedia, is the producer/writer/director of the groundbreaking documentary titled A PLACE CALLED HOME: THE GREAT MIGRATION OF THE 21ST CENTURY. Two years in the making, the savvy producer connects the dots between the current migration journey of African Americans moving en mass to the southern regions of the U.S., and migrants of the African Diaspora who are relocating from England and Africa. The first film of the south since The Civil Rights Movement, Fuller explores the “new south” compared to the changing landscapes of "rust belt" cities of the north. The push factors influencing this mass movement include the demise of the industrial job sector in the north, the national real estate crisis, and the economic crises that began in the wake of 9/11. The poignant questions the documentary begs: Is this current phenomenon of blacks migrating en mass the result of an insidious urban renewal policy called “gentrification,” or is it a manifestation of a shared ethos, a spiritual calling of African Americans and people of African decent to return to their southern U.S. roots? Atlanta, GA is ground zero of this migration odyssey, and is one of the featured city’s of the documentary. Principle photography is completed, with one last possible location shoot in West Africa. The producers are in the first phase of post-production on this historical three-part film project, and are currently seeking completion funding.
